In Grade 5 science, students investigate how people use energy every day. They study how electricity powers homes and schools, how fuel is used for heating and transportation, and how technology depends on energy.

Through energy audits of classrooms, tracking power use, or examining local community infrastructure, students discover the many ways energy supports daily life. These investigations help them understand why managing energy wisely is important for families and communities.

This topic is part of the Earth and Space Systems strand in the Ontario Science and Technology Curriculum.

Students are expected to describe how energy is used in homes, schools, and communities, and assess the importance of using it efficiently (Overall Expectation E2.2).
